reading and tidying

i don't really wish to create an entire section for books in the way i have for video games for a few reasons. i don't expect to discuss them often and adorn their pages because i don't have the same interest as a medium itself. however, i still love reading novels and i've been meaning to revitalize that hobby. in the past several months i've been using my nexus 7 2013 tablet as a glorified kindle which has allowed me to easily access so many books. i want to list and briefly share thoughts on them.

some novels i read are from high school that i wish to reread as an adult and gain a clearer opinion on. i'd also love some book recommendations, i have a bunch downloaded already as well as some physical books.

high school rereads

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451
information, censorship, and control. while books as an object are central to the story it's important to acknowledge their medium as information.
Jeannette Walls' The Glass Castle
a very heartwrenching and infuriating biography. i want to read some of Walls' other books to get a better read of her as an author and her informed experiences.

new! books

Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House
a story and house that will stick with me. the dark architecture sticking out like a thorn.
Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Mexican Gothic
takes a little bit to get started and sort of explains itself at the end but a very grotesque and memorable story.
Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye
while not a horror novel, a very horrifying novel. the grief and despair of the characters is incredibly palpable and the book ends very forlorn.
J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit
christ... i liked it but it was very long. a charming story and i respect the cultural impact this tale has but there's perhaps a little too much "fantasy fluff"
Akwaeke Emezi's Freshwater
understanding. stomach-churning.

in other news, i've been clearing and tidying parts of my room. it was difficult to let some of the stuff go but i ultimately wanted the space and felt someone else would enjoy it more. my freaking shelves need to be more kempt. and i need more shelving...
